CURRICULUM OF THE WEEK: WINNING WITH THE OMOPLATA APRIL 14-18

Jiu-Jitsu is more than just an individual pursuit—it’s about the team. Every roll, every rep, and every correction helps not only you, but your teammates grow too. When you show up consistently, you're not just building your skills—you're helping the whole team level up. Let's push each other, support each other, and keep growing together. That’s how champions are made.
This week, we're diving deep into one of the most versatile and effective techniques in the Jiu-Jitsu arsenal: the Omoplata.
The Omoplata is not just a submission—it’s a position of control, a tool for sweeping, and a reliable way to break your opponent’s posture. Whether you're chasing the finish or setting up transitions, this technique will add serious value to your guard game.
Here’s what we’ll be focusing on throughout the week:
🔹 Omoplata Setups
- From closed guard against a kneeling opponent: Learn how to isolate the arm, open the guard safely, and begin the angle for the Omoplata.
- From closed guard against a standing opponent: Timing, posture breaks, and how to bait the step for the perfect entry.
- Drills to help you hit the Omoplata during live rolls more naturally and smoothly.
🔹 Omoplata Sweeps
- What to do when your opponent postures up or defends: How to turn the attack into a sweep and land in dominant position.
- Flowing between submission and position: Using Omoplata to transition to mount, side control, or back control.
🔹 Omoplata Finishes
- Key details to tighten the lock and prevent escapes.
- Concepts on controlling the hips, preventing rolls, and applying gradual pressure for the tap.
- Troubleshooting common problems when going for the submission.
👊 This Week’s Challenge:
Try to hit at least one Omoplata setup or sweep in every roll this week—whether you finish it or not. The goal is to build awareness and timing. Remember, perfect reps lead to perfect performance.
